HYATT SCOTTSDALE RESORT GAINEY RANCH WEDDING: Gina + Ken

I freely, completely, unconditionally, and without reservation, pledge my life to loving you.”  Those were the vows he spoke to her. And there wasn’t a dry eye around. Including mine. Gina & Ken’s wedding was nothing less than a fairy tale day; complete with Tiffany boxes, and gorgeous blue heels to match; sweet surprises, and romantic & damp-eyed love letters; vintage lace and an incredible choreographed first dance; and of course, the bling to end all blings, and a ’65 Corvette that had everyone’s hearts revving.

But that’s not what made this day really special. Apart from the fact that it couldn’t have been a more glorious fall day, with blue skies and mild temperatures. Apart from the fact that the previous day’s storm had cleared the air and made all the flowers glisten. Apart from the fact that the day was filled with gorgeous people at the absolutely stunning Hyatt Scottsdale Resort, and a vendor team that I loved working with. What made this day really, really special…. was how many times Gina just couldn’t help but kick up her feet… All. Day. Long. Ken literally swept her off her feet…. over. And over. And over again. Gina deserves absolutely nothing less that this fairy tale life which she can now call her own. And so does their family.

Congratulations Gina & Ken! I’m honored to have had the privilege of documenting your two families joining as one. More than that, I am overjoyed for you and the kids, and I know your life together will be filled incredibly romantic, over-the-top style dances, gifts, smiles, heel kicks, and most of all… love. I am so very happy for you all, and I can’t wait to see what this new 5.0 life brings to you! 💕

VENUE AT THE GROVE WEDDING: Phoenix, AZ Photographer: Caitlyn + Bob

This is a story about an acrobat and an artist who met on Halloween. She can hold a deep conversation about Star Wars and LOTR, and he talks to her cats like she does. They fall in love, and decide to get married in a gorgeous grove in Arizona. They plan the whole thing from 1500+ miles away, and bring all their closest friends & family from Canada. They play airplane during photos and headbang their way into the grand entrance, and the day is freaking magic!

Because when two awesome people come together and celebrate their unique love in a way that reflects their rad style, surrounded by all of their biggest fans, how could it not be a total blast? My cheeks still hurt from smiling.

Caitlyn & Bob, your wedding was epic, just like the two of you. Thank you for chosing me to document your amazing day! May your life together be a work of art, and may it be filled with never-ending airplane rides! 💕

BUTTES MARRIOTT WEDDING: Tempe, AZ Photographer: Alison + Justin

He lead her down to the beach to take sunset photos. The resort where they were staying had a gazebo that extended over the water, so that was the perfect spot. The Caribbean Sea is blue and clear and you can see forever when you are literally walking on top of it. And then he got down on one knee… Justin proposed to Alison under a golden sky on top of the crystal clear water.

And so I felt that it was absolutely necessary that we give them a wedding photo to match. I realize I can’t make the beach come to the desert, but I can (almost always) promise a pretty glorious sunset. And they had, again, picked the perfect spot. The Buttes in Tempe is not only a gorgeous resort, but also has fantastic views of the city, and of the incredible sunsets we get here in the valley. They indulged me the short trek up to the top of the Butte, and we were treated a never-ending sky and a peaceful, perfect place to just be together for a moment.

Everything about Alison & Justin’s wedding was like that… perfect, peaceful, and beautiful beyond words. It was simply elegant, and had that comfortable feeling that makes you just know you’re in the presence of friends. I absolutely adore these two people, and I am honored and humbled to have been a part of their amazing day.

Alison & Justin, thank you for allowing me the honor of documenting your wedding, your love, and your first sunset as husband and wife. I wish you a lifetime of amazing sunsets, my friends. And within your marriage, “May every sunrise hold more promise and every sunset hold more peace…” ~ Umair Siddiqui  💕

DESERT BOTANICAL GARDEN WEDDING: Phoenix, AZ Photographer: Anna + Hank

No two weddings are alike. Every bride, every groom, every love is unique. And when you add up the variables…. well, the possibilities are endless. As for this wedding? I knew from the day I met Anna and Hank, that this wedding… it would be exceptional. And it did not disappoint. On one hand, it was classic (and classy). Classic look, classic beauty, classic car. I mean, what bride wouldn’t kill for a classic Bentley to arrive and depart in? On the other hand… it was completely outside of the ‘tied-with-a-big-white-bow’ box.

Because here’s the thing about Anna. She may have a classic British upbringing, but she’s also totally unconventional. She personally greeted each of her guests with a glass of champagne as they arrived. As in… before they sat down. Which, by the way, was not upon any ordinary seat. No, there were couches, armchairs, and settees for the guests to lounge in style while they witnessed these two wed. There was (drool-worthy) baklava to munch on, champagne to sip, and books to peruse, all in a gorgeously lush garden setting. Oh, and whenever you’re hungry? No need to wait for your table to be called, just help yourself to one of four different serving stations filled with tasty tapas to satisfy even the most discriminating taste buds.

Yes, Anna and Hank were the most gracious of hosts. But they are also the most perfect of pairs. Between Anna’s zany outgoing personality, and Hank’s sweet and introverted nature, you just can’t help but fall in love with them. And I have. Anna and Hank, your wedding was amazing, just like the two of you. I wish you a classically long life together, filled with unconventional and unending love! 💕

SCHNEPF FARMS WEDDING: ASHLEY+JORDAN

They say life is a series of ‘firsts’. Your first steps, your first adventure, your first kiss…. And as you move through life, those ‘firsts’ come less frequently. On this beautifully warm early fall day, in the midst of a peach grove outside the lovely Farmhouse at Schnepf Farms, I had another first. Surrounded by their loved ones, Ashley + Jordan did something I had never seen done before.

They created a new tradition. One that I hope, on one hand (coming from the crazy romantic inside me), will remain unique to them…. And on the other hand, will actually catch on, because it was so incredibly sweet, so beautiful and creative. They branded a piece of wood. A round slice from a tree, raw and unfinished, perfect in it’s imperfection.

And as I watched them lift the iron from the fire, and press it to the wood, I thought to myself, and could hear their guests whisper as well… “That is really cool.” But when their officiant lifted the newly branded  piece of wood, held it up for everyone to see, and spoke these words…. I was in complete awe.

“Today, Jordan and Ashley are starting a new tradition. As a sign of their love for each other, the intertwining of their lives, and the fire that burns within their souls for each other, gathered together among friends and family, they will brand this piece of wood. This brand will be on permanent display in their home to show their devotion to each other, today, tomorrow and the rest of their lives. To help them find their way back home, if ever lost in the turbulent storms of life. To remind them of the love and support that each of you have given them today and that you continue to give each and every day. As this brand cannot be undone, so shall their promise to each other stand the test of time.”

For each wedding, each engagement, each couple, I try my best to describe in words their love, their relationship, their experience. But for this wedding, for this couple… my words fail me. Not for lack of inspiration. Quite the contrary. For the simple reason that my words could never come close to better describing the love that they share than those that were already spoken on their wedding day. And so, I hope that I’ve been able to describe this amazing love, this amazing wedding, this amazing experience, in photos.

Ashley+Jordan, thank you for allowing me the honor of documenting your wedding, your love, and your new tradition. I wish you so much happiness and joy, my friends. And I wish you a marriage filled with ‘firsts’, and also ‘forevers’. Like the rings of a tree, may your love grow through the years, weathering all that life brings, shifting and changing ever so slightly, yet remaining encircled, becoming stronger and stronger every day. 💕   ©Mindy Deluca

AZ GRAND RESORT & RUSTLERS ROOSTE WEDDING: Maggie + Chad

There are some people who come into your world and brighten it instantaneously. Like the sun. They shine… so brightly… and you can’t help but want to be in their presence. I recently had the honor to be-friend and photograph the wedding of two such people.

From the first time I spoke with Maggie, I knew we were going to be fast friends. She is so sweet and joyful and down-to-earth, and soon we were chatting like we knew each other for years! Then I found out she is a manager at Dutch Brothers and…. Aaaahhahhhhhh!…. Well, that just sealed the deal. Anyone associated with my favorite coffee company is A-OK in my book!! Haha! Maggie is just like the gorgeous sunflowers she carried on her wedding day. She is tall and bright and welcoming. She brings happiness, cheer, and hope to all who gaze upon her. You just want to take her with you everywhere. And she pairs perfectly with a bottle of beer! (Shameless sunflower seed reference… hahaha!) And Chad is a handsome, funny, down-home, a-little-goofy-in-the-best-way, boy-next-door, little-bit-country type with a smile that will make your heart melt.

When I officially “met” with Maggie and Chad, I fell in love with them! They are high-school sweethearts, and are just adorable together. Their smiles and laughter and ability to have a good time is so infectious. They’re the kind of people you invite to your party because you know they’ll make it fun! I just can’t get enough of these two, and from the day we met I couldn’t wait for their wedding!

And it was all I expected it would be and more! It was sweet and romantic and beautiful. And it was also relaxed and joyful and fun. The bridal party got ready at the AZ Grand Resort, so that’s were our day got off to an amazing start. Any time I get to photograph gorgeous, fun-loving people in courtyards with ivy-covered arches…. Aahh, it makes me giddy!  I couldn’t have asked for a more awesome group of people in such an awesome setting. For the ceremony and reception, we took a quick trip up the hill to Rustlers Rooste. It’s a great venue with pretty lights, amazing views and a relaxed atmosphere and was the perfect spot for this party! The whole day was an absolute blast. When a bride says to you, “We have to get photos of me and my bridesmaids going down the slide!” you just know it’s going to be a good night! And was it ever! I didn’t want it to end! As their friends and family took in the city light views with the stars shining above, we snuck away for one last stunning photo of the newlyweds, and I think it was the perfect end to the perfect day.

Maggie and Chad, I absolutely adore you guys! Thank you for allowing me to capture your amazing wedding.  I know that your relationship will continue to be bold and resilient, and your love will grow stronger every day as you shine your light upon each other. Look to each other, and even on the darkest days, you will stand tall and find the sunlight! Every time I see a sunflower, I will think of you!  So much love, my friends!! 💕

SCOTTSDALE CIVIC CENTER & CAMELBACK MOUNTAIN WEDDING: SHEILA + BRAND

He twirled her. Over and over and over again. There was no music to be heard. But he took her hand, spontaneously, and without prompting, he lead her in a dance. That’s when you know that there is a magic between a couple. When they can dance to a beat that only the two of them hear, never missing a step. And on this warm spring day, with the sun aglow on the horizon, city lights in view, Sheila and Brand danced the night away.

When Sheila and I first spoke about her wedding, it was clear that her main goal was for it to be fun! Beautiful and sweet, yes. But not too formal. She wanted a celebration. And most definitely a night that her friends and family could look back on and smile. And that is exactly what it was. Sheila + Brand’s wedding was full of smiles. And laughter. And cheers. My cheeks hurt just remembering it.

And oh my, was it beautiful! The ceremony took place at the ever lovely Marshall Garden at the Scottsdale Civic Center. There were a few very sweet tears of joy, especially when they said their vows. And there was lots of laughter when Brand, who was so entranced with Sheila and the words they had just spoken to each other, leaned down to kiss her….. before the officiant had given the go ahead! The sun peeked through the trees and painted a golden glow on their “official” first kiss, which of course was comprised of a “secret hand shake”, a gentle shoulder bump, and yes, you guessed it… their very own dance move. J

The celebration continued at a gorgeous private residence on Camelback Mountain, with a stunning view of downtown Phoenix. We snuck away for a bit to enjoy the sunset, the desert, and the city lights. *Special thanks goes out to Brand’s friend, Chris, who became my lighting assistant… night fell quickly, and we couldn’t have gotten these images without him! When we returned to the reception, dinner was served! But not just any traditional buffet or catered dinner. Not for this fun-loving couple. They opted for a food truck! Super Farm Super Truckprovided gourmet tacos for the guests. And that was no easy feat… considering they had to back the truck up the drive… did I mention this was on the side of a mountain??! But they made it, and it was a super unique and super tasty meal! Yum!

Sheila, I can safely say that you accomplished your goal. Your day was amazing. After dinner and toasts, the dance floor was full of guests, enjoying the party under the string lights.

When I left for the night, I looked for Sheila & Brand. And there they were… dancing.

Congratulations Sheila + Brand! You have found your perfect dance partner. May you forever sway to the music in your hearts. 💕

PHOENIX SOUTH MOUNTAIN WEDDING: PAM + DAN

Question: What do you get when you take a stunningly beautiful Bride, a strikingly handsome Groom, their going-to-be-a-heartbreaker son, and 14 gorgeous bridesmaids & groomsmen, bring them all in from Canada, put them in an amazing Sonoran desert setting, and mix in a cocktail or two?

Answer: You get an Epic Wedding!

And here’s the crazy part: they planned it all in 3 months! They wanted an outdoor wedding. And since winter in Alberta is not exactly what you would call temperate (way too cold for a strapless gown), Pam and Dan decided to transport the party to Phoenix.

How do you pull off a wedding in a different country in 90 days? Well, first you have some serious planning & organizing skills. Second, you have fabulous friends (and maybe one of them has a beautiful home with a beautiful yard in the Valley of the Sun). Last, you focus on what’s important: family, friendship, fun. You bring all your joy and love and emotion to the forefront and you decide what really matters. And in the end, you spend the best day of your lives enjoying every single second, having a killer party surrounded by so much love and happiness that it ends with people in the pool (in formal attire). Now that’s a party, eh?

And that’s what they did. Every single one of these awesome Canadians had an absolute blast. And I had so much fun documenting their day, I didn’t want to leave! Thank you, Pam and Dan and Graysen, for letting me be a small part of your adventure. Your story brought me to tears, your humor doubled me over, and your love inspires me endlessly. 💕

MY VINTAGE VENUE WEDDING: CHELSEA + DAVIE

She’s the soy sauce to his sushi. He’s the syrup to her waffles…

And those two lines were part of their vows. Vows that were spoken, quietly and sweetly, at their table, just before an amazing dinner. In a wedding that broke from tradition and got to the root of all that is this thing we call marriage. Together, they are infinitely better than when they are apart. And now, they are together, forever.  Chelsea and Davie said their I Do’s…. well, actually, they didn’t say “I Do” per se… I digress. Let’s back up a minute.

There was no official “ceremony”. There was no walking down the aisle. There was no multi-tiered cake. What there was, was food and friends, and comics and cranes, and pies and punch, and karaoke and sparklers, and everything that makes Chelsea and Davie unique. There were two immensely talented and creative people, and everything that makes them happy, wrapped up in to one day. And it was incredible.

From the curtains of comic-book-page origami cranes that Chelsea made by hand, to the photo-booth where friends could pose and print photos and make scrapbook pages pages for the guestbook, to the cast iron bathtub full of cans of ice cold Hawaiian punch, to the comic book centerpieces, to the amazing Hawaiian fusion meal (I SO need that garlic sesame dressing recipe!), to the (TO DIE FOR – um, Cherry Almond… heck yeah!) pies and pastries… Every single detail of this wedding was creative, non-traditional and original. Just like Chelsea and Davie.

That’s what made their wedding so special. Not the fact that it was out-of-the-ordinary, but that it was so truly and uniquely “them”. It was the perfect reflection and epitome of two people for whom I have so much respect and admiration. Chelsea and Davie, thank you for allowing me the honor and privilege of photographing your extraordinary day. It was just. so. incredibly. cool!  Thank you for trusting me with your memories. I loved every minute I was fortunate enough to spend with you all. Your wedding was one I will never forget, because the two of you are simply unforgettable. Here are a few highlights from your amazing celebration. I hope you love them as much as I do! And I hope one day I’ll get the privilege of sharing another amazing meal with you guys, and possibly trying some of Chelsea’s famous pie! Many Congratulations and so much love to you my friends…. 💕

GROOM CREEK SCHOOLHOUSE WEDDING: JENNIFER + DANIEL

©Mindy Deluca, Life Story Photography.

It was a picture perfect day in the pines near Prescott. Clouds danced in the sky, cooling the summer sun. They parted frequently, allowing glorious rays of sunshine to peek through and shine down, as though they knew the exact moment and proper placement of such heavenly light.

The setting was serene… tall trees, pine cones, fresh mountain air… and reflected perfectly the kind nature of the two people who would be united this day. Amidst the peaceful campground, a flurry of excitement broke the forest’s silence. Although things were not going exactly according to plan (weddings rarely do), Jennifer and Daniel knew that in just a few short moments, they would be husband and wife, and nothing else would matter. Amongst their dearest friends and family, and surrounded by nature’s majesty, they said their I Do’s in the amphitheater at Groom Creek Schoolhouse.

Their forest wedding could not have been more sweet and sincere. It pulled at my heart strings, and spoke to the nature lover inside me. It reminded me of what is really important in life. Simplicity, honesty, a tiny bit of craziness, and above all… love, life, family, celebration.

Jennifer and Daniel, words cannot describe how much I enjoyed documenting your wedding.  I wish you so much happiness and joy as you journey through life together, and as you continue to write your Life Story.

They had not planned on a first look, but as we all know life doesn’t always go as planned. What happened as a result was magical. The emotion that filled them as they saw each other for the first time was so overwhelming. The nerves, the chaos… it melted away as Daniel brushed a tear from Jennifer’s cheek. He lit up, and she beamed with happiness. In that moment, they were reminded of the meaning of the day.

THE CROFT & SECRET GARDEN WEDDING : GUIOVANNA + ROB

©Mindy Deluca, Life Story Photography.

There’s just something special about intimate weddings. The focus of the day zeroes in on the love & lives that are uniting. Two families join, and the people who are dearest to them are witness. Simple, beautiful, tender…. And isn’t that what a Wedding is really about?

Amidst the summer heat, and amongst friends and family, Guiovanna and Rob held their ceremony in Phoenix at The Croft. The setting was sweet and romantic, an eclectic mix of modern and rustic, a hidden gem downtown.  Then on to The Secret Garden for the Reception, which felt much like a large family gathering. The setting at The Secret Garden  is intimate, relaxed, comfortable, inviting, and beautiful all rolled into one at the historic property. Much like the love that is apparent between these two amazing people.

Guiovanna and Rob, thank you for allowing me to document your beautiful wedding. I wish you the best as you journey through life together, and as you continue to write your Life Story….

The decor at The Croft is amazing. They had so many lighted signs, but this heart spoke to me, and fit the feel of the day. The couple said their I Dos under a canopy of candle-lit lanterns and a crystal chandelier. Very romantic!

The best part of taking photos is when I get to see someone’s personality shine through. I love when my brides want to have fun! Thank you, Guiovanna for showing me your “goofy” poses!!! You’re Awesome!
